On 28 and 29 October we open our latest solo exhibition with work by artist and tutor Cordell Garfield.
'Art on the Wall' is an exhibition of works on all the walls in the main space at Yardley Arts, which will be available to view and buy.
Over both days Cordell will be demonstrating one of his paintings, giving an insight into his approach and techniques. The exhibition will be a showcase for Cordell’s art, but also offers a glimpse of the artist at work.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
I am a Northampton based artist, working from my studio at the NN Contemporary Gallery Space in Fetter Street. Mainly self-taught and primarily an oil painter I use traditional classical atelier techniques with a contemporary feel. Portraits and figurative work feature strongly in my art, and I’m well known for my strong evocative portraits and musical icons. I will use life drawing sketches, digital media and photographs to create my paintings, and through this approach embrace both the traditional and contemporary. Aside from portraits, I also find inspiration in the light, colours and shapes of the landscapes that I encounter, particularly the beautiful Northamptonshire countryside.
I’m President of the Northampton Town and County Art Society, and I have exhibited extensively within the county and beyond, notably in London and at the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists. My work is held in collections outside the UK, and I was awarded the Peoples’ Choice Prize at the Alfred East Gallery as part of their Open 13 exhibition.
WORKSHOPS
I also run workshops specialising in painting portraits and landscapes in oils which are a great introduction to portrait painting, but also ideal for refreshing skills for more experienced artists. To book a place please click here

PROJECTS
I’m currently creating a series of paintings of Northamptonshire’s Boot and Shoe industry, based on my observations, sketches and photos from my travels to factories and shoe companies. I want to capture the highly skilled craftsmanship behind Northamptonshire’s world renowned quality footwear. Examples of my work are on my website
