Would you like to learn the art of multi-block linocut? Come and join Northamptonshire-based linocut printmaker, Kat Lendacka, for three half-day sessions this term. You will leave with a selection of prints and a new skill you can keep improving at home.

About Linocut … and what you will do

Linocut is a printmaking technique, a variant of woodcut in which a sheet of linoleum or vinyl is used for a relief surface.

You will be using a set of ABIG tools with changeable blades and wooden handles and a type of grey vinyl, Easy Carve, which can be easily bought online. The advantage of this type of vinyl is the contrast between the surface and the carved area.

There are many brilliant water-based relief inks out there too. There is no smell and absolutely washable with warm water in kitchen sinks. It has never been easier to immerse yourself into linocut printing at home.

The course

In week one, we will be looking at linocut artists working with multi-block linocut and will study the technique by looking at individual blocks and prints that Kat will bring into the class. We will spend some time developing your linocutting skills and then start thinking and drawing our own multi layered image that we will then develop into the multi-block linocut. We might be able to make a start carving our first layer.

In week two, we will continue with the process, and will test print our first/first and second layer.

In week three, we will be completing and printing our final two or three blocks.

Optional: You can purchase ABIG carving tools for £10.
