Felt Making for Beginners (1-day workshop)

This basic wet felt making course with Paula de Santis Smith will enable you to understand the main principles of felting. You will learn how unspun wool can be converted into a piece of fabric, exploring texture and colour, and the processes of bonding wool fibres together which forms an exotic and unique piece of fabric. You can then apply stitch, embellish or simply create your own picture by layering felt. Come and have a go!

What to bring

All materials will be provided but you may wish to bring an apron or old shirt.

Please bring a packed lunch; we will take a short break half way through the day for lunch/refreshments. Tea, coffee and biscuits are available for £1.

Cost

£60 per person. Suitable for complete beginners ages 16+. Spaces limited to 10. Experience is not necessary as support and guidance will be on hand.

About the tutor

After studying Fine Art prior to Textiles Design, Paula has worked in Art Education for most of her career as a teacher, tutor, lecturer and manager with different arts organisations, whilst also exhibiting her own fine art/textile work in London. Her most recent commission was for the designer Paul Smith, in collaboration with the Rottingdean Bazaar stylists, in a book featuring her textile designs.

Paula now works from her home studio creating different textile products and selling them online, as well as creating conceptual textile pieces which are exhibited. Find out more at her website www.desantisdesigns.co.uk.
