Introduction to Landscape Acrylics (1-day workshop)

  • Yardley Arts, The Old School Hall The Square, Yardley Hastings Northampton, England, NN7 1EU United Kingdom (map)

Are you interested in learning to paint in acrylic?
Do you want to make paintings that can be strong and bold or subtle and calm?
Do you want to enjoy the ease and freedom of making adjustments that acrylics give?
Are you keen but terrified?
Then this is the course for you.

Together we will experiment with colour mixing and methods of paint application, and consider layering and working dark to light.

We will use viewfinders to select your chosen area of a landscape and interpret that in paint, working on a pre-coloured ground.

By the end of the day you will have an acrylic painting to be proud of, and will have increased your knowledge in the techniques of acrylics.

Chris is a very experienced teacher and practitioner. She is friendly and relaxed, and aims to increase your confidence in your work and your ability.

What are acrylics?

Acrylic paint is water-based fast-drying paint widely used by artists since the 1960s. It's an ideal medium for beginners, due to its versatility and ease of use. It can be diluted with water and used thinly or thickly depending on how much water is added to it, so that it can resemble a watercolour or an oil painting - or have its own unique characteristics not attainable with other media. Plus it becomes waterproof when dried.

Because of its versatility, it has become a popular painting medium and is widely used by artists today for any kind of painting techniques and styles, from finely detailed portrait to abstract art. Artist David Hockney was an early champion of acrylic paint, using it to create some of his best known works of the 1960s.
