Silver Jewellery Making (7-week course, Wednesday afternoons)

New to jewellery making? Or already tried your hand at silversmithing? Got some ideas in mind but don’t know where to start? Then this course run by Beccy Gillatt is for you. It's a multi-session course suitable for all levels. She tailors the course to meet your skill level.

Weeks 1-2 - Saw piercing project.

Weeks 2-4 - Doming or spoon making (beginners), locket or spoon making (returners)

Weeks 5-7 - Tube setting or cabochon setting (beginners), channel setting (returners)

Dates and cost

Wednesdays, starting on 7 September for 7 weeks.

Cost: £180 per person. Materials will be available to purchase during the course, but if you would like to bring your own, this information will be sent to you weekly. Materials will range from £30 to £50, depending on your designs and the stones you choose.

Course limit

The course is limited to 8 spaces (maximum). The course is suitable for both total beginners and those with some experience.

Additional information

What you need to bring:

  • An apron (or old clothes)

  • Notepad (blank page) or sketchbook

  • Pen and pencil

  • Textures such as skeleton leaves, fabric off cuts, textured paper

What to wear

Please make sure that you have a hairband to tie your hair back and do not wear floaty skirts, really loose fitting clothes, scarves or open toe shoes, as we will be in a workshop environment. We will use torches and some acids, which can damage clothes so an apron or pinny is recommended as well as remembering not to wear your favourite jeans!

What is included

  • Use of tools (if you have your own, please do bring them)

  • Copper for sampling, consumables like saw blades and solder

  • Handouts on processes and techniques
