Rodin inspired Sculpture (2-day workshop)

Tutor Sara Myers with previous attendees of the Sculpt the Torso short course

Have you seen the Rodin exhibition at the Tate? Feeling inspired? Want to try sculpture but don’t know where to start? Already tried modelling in clay, but would like to progress? In this short intensive course with Sara Myers, you will sculpt a small reclining nude, working directly from life.

It is a great introduction to sculpting from the figure. It will be two short days (10-3pm, with a break for lunch) modelling with terracotta, with Emma as our model.

Everything is provided and advice and feedback will be given throughout. Anyone who is unfamiliar with the process of digging out and prepping a clay piece for firing will have to stop early on the afternoon on the second day, to learn and practice the hollowing out technique used. Then the pieces will be taken away to be finished at home. They will need to be dried out a little before hollowing ready for firing. The pieces can then be dropped directly with Sarah at Swanspool Ceramics, or with Sara, and fired hopefully before Christmas.

There will be stands, clay, modelling tools provided, along with all the various paraphernalia needed to sculpt a small piece. In addition, each person will be working from a sculpture stand and with the model positioned on a central rotating platform, all in the lovely airy spacious studio at Yardley Arts.

Please note: there is always a risk that things can get damaged in the kiln during the course of firing or be damaged by another piece. This is a risk in the process of firing clay.
