Half-term 4 day course. Starts Monday 12 February 2018  (4 days: 12/13/14 and 15 February)

Each workshop will be introduced with a few images and art historical information to put the work in context. Particular artists will be chosen as inspiration.

1. Mon 12 Feb 10am - 12.30pm
Clay modelling
Coil building, slab building and modelling on an armature (frame).
Planning the construction of the sculpture according to the form. This is an essential skill.

2. Tues 13 Feb 10am - 12.30pm
Soap-carving to learn about reducing a form to create sculpture.
Also, continue with clay work incorporating different techniques.

3. Wed 14 Feb 10am - 12.30pm
Scale and materials
We will look at scale in sculpture and consider the use of different materials. The tasks today will be to sculpt a small handheld piece in clay inspired by netsuke, miniature Japanese sculptures, and in two teams, to build two large sculptural structures from cardboard.

4. Thurs 15 Feb 10am - 12.30pm
Mould making and casting
Press moulds and casting small forms in plaster and metal.

At the end of the course, students will be able to take their work home.
